We Interrupt This Broadcast

To announce that I totally got a raise last week! A sweet sweet raise!

I’ve been meaning to update this thing, but I have been busy, apparently. Busy getting raises. Hah. Actually, I’m trying to think what I did last week that prevented me from updating but I am drawing a blank…

Oh, I did go to the Gem Faire at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Sacramento on Saturday. I went with my cousin Janelle and we had a great time! We also hit Bead Fetish, U Bead It, and Rumplestiltskin while we were up there.  And I, like, bought yarn. (oooh, shocker!) I REALLY wasn’t even going to go to Rumplestiltskin because, dudes, um, I have yarn. But we went to lunch at the waffle place on S and 10th (the name of which I CANNOT ever remember) and that is but a block away from Rumplestiltskin which is on R and 11th (ish). So we went over there and I caved like the weakling I am.

Regia 4-ply But you GUYS they had new Kaffe Fassett Design Line yarn from Regia! I hate that guy! Yet he makes awesomely colored yarn! I find this annoying! I think he annoys me because my mom has some old books of his that are from the eighties, and let’s face it, the eighties have a lot to answer for, fashion-wise. So there was this guy with all these ugly color combos on eighties clothes that were just completely horrendous.

But then I saw the first wave of the sock yarn, and kind of changed my mind about the color thing (art school helped too). And in his latest book, Kaffe Knits Again (or whatever) were patterns I would actually knit! Not that I remember what they were. So, I apologize for judging you too soon, Kaffe Fassett, you rock. Especially this latest stripey color combo. Which I want to cast on right away but CAN’T because I totally have socks on all my sock needles, dangit.

Anyway, the other yarn I got was me being totally seduced by a floor sample that was already knit up.  It’s Online Supersocke in some awesome colors that did not photograph well at all at 10 p.m. (Go figure.) Online Supersocke 100But let me assure that it is pretty danged awesome. They had all the colors of the Supersocke from what I could tell, along with a ton of the Noro sock yarn. I like Noro colors, but it’s not my favorite to knit with. I did make those crocheted Noro scarves last winter, though.  That was okay.

So, I bought yarn. I was bad. Bad to the bone.

I also spent approximately $200 on beads, including these awesome electroplated leaves:

On the left are maple seed pods (“helicopters”) and on the right is a cypress leaf.

I made the seed pods into earrings that I am wearing today.  They are really fun.

IN CONCLUSION I LIKE TO SPEND MONEY.

CLOCK
(I bought this at Target, it is AWESOME.)

Actually, I am kind of “stocking up” because I will actually be moving in October (I KNOW, right? My sweet sweet life of mooching will be over!) and will be paying crazy San Francisco Bay Area rental costs and will NEVER HAVE MONEY AGAIN. Except, I might still, since I got that raise. And I only have one more credit card payment and I own more than half of my car, so things are looking pretty excellent!

Hey, it took me 28 years, but I finally have my shit together, more or less.

Alamo Heights, Castle Hills, Olmos Park

Yesterday I went out and about to all my favorite shopping places in San Antonio.  First I stopped at Yarnivore in Castle Hills off NW Military Highway.  I had never been to Yarnivore, as it opened about four months after I loved.  It’s a great store and the girl running the place was really nice. They had a knitting machine in the middle of the shop, which is cool because a lot of times people are like, ew, knitting machines.

I bought some sock yarn:

Yarnivore Yarn

Panda Cotton, Collinette Jitterbug, and Fannie’s Fingering Weight.

I then went to Alamo Heights and stopped at Nomadic Notions, where I bought some charms, and then I stopped at the Yarn Barn, which has changed ownership and I wasn’t really impressed with their sock yarn selection, which is basically how I judge a store. I did pick up some Regia Surf in yellowy blues and greens.  It’s a cotton/wool blend that will make nice socks.

Then I stopped at the Rim, which is a new shopping center just north of La Cantera (a ritzy outdoor shopping mall that boasts a Neiman Marcus and Tiffany’s) and looked at the new Michael’s, which didn’t have anything that the Brentwood Michael’s didn’t have. After that I stopped at Taco Cabana and then at Hobby Lobby.

At Hobby Lobby I got some beads.

Beads!

Today we went to the outlets at San Marcos and I got some stuff at Bath & Body Works.  And an owl bag at the Charlotte Russe outlet:

Then when we were going down I-35, we saw a different Hobby Lobby (in Selma) and we stopped there and Julie got some stuff and I got some more beads, but also in the same shopping center was a new beads store called Beads 2 Go, and I got some awesome beads there…

Tomorrow I am staying at the apartment and putzing around watching tv, and then Julie and I are going downtown to the Mercado and out to dinner at County Line.

Mmm, County Line.

Beads and Yarn… it’s always beads and yarn.

DUDES!

At Joann’s they are having a mighty mighty clearance! On some of the stranded beads that hang on the wall! I mentioned this previously, but now I must show you the bounty that I purchased for a mere MERE $7.56:

Sale Beads

Um, hello $50 worth of beads? Hellooooo. I do like a good clearance. You can find this rack up by the magazines in the front. From left to right is pink resin, red resin, turquoise resin, black painted wood, green resin, wood, and glass.

What will I make with this? I do not know! But I have been wanting a lot of the black wood for months. I didn’t know they were going to clearance it. I used all my other ones for a Christmas present (sob).

Also at the Beverly’s they have the new Lion Brand sock yarn, Sock Ease:

I know, I know, I don’t need more sock yarn. But so what. I liked all the other colors too and I refrained from buying them, so that shows some small semblance of restraint, yes? Yes?

They do not have the Sock Ease at Joann’s or Michael’s. I know this because I looked. I do these things for you.

Okay, I don’t, I do them for me.

And finally, fun with Photoshop!:

In Vitro

I amuse myself in many ways.

Tomorrow: Thai Food! The Big Ross in San Francisco! And! DSW!

The fun never stops around here. Oh by the way, I am two weeks off carbs and I officially do not miss them.

Say it with me now:

WTF.

I KNOW, right? I personally never thought I would see the day. But I have been feeling a lot better and I don’t even WANT bread or tortillas or noodles or whatever… I just want half a spaghetti squash and chicken.

Let me say it again: WTF.

While bizarre, this is a good thing! I’ve been looking forward to having carbs again, only to realize that I don’t really want them. Was my two weeks of cleansing successful? Could very well be! Now I am afraid of rice, nice.

Remind me not to post when I am all tired because it is like drunk posting apparently. No cabazáns here! (they have carbs.)
