Warm Wrists, Warm Weather

The weather has been heating up here lately, much to my dismay. If ever there was a person who loathed hot weather, it is me. Where is my delicious fall weather? Why isn’t it in the 50s and 60s? I mean, my air conditioner is on right now. It’s probably about 85 out there. You know how people get seasonal depression in the winter due to lack of sun and vitamin D? I get that in the summer due to too much sun and lack of layers to be worn. I’m definitely a homebody who likes to cozy up under a grey sky. Sheesh.

Anyway, so despite all that, I did go to the reservoir this morning with my dad for some sun and fresh air. So, points for me!

I actually finished a long languishing project:

Yep, those are my King George mitts, knit in Malabrigo sock (love. it.) over a period of something like a year. Oy vey, self! Once I cracked down and remembered what the eff I was doing, it only took about two evening in front of the TV to finish up the second mitt.

They feature a turned hem, the King Charles Brocade lace panel from the Harmony guides lace book, a thumb gusset and 1×1 ribbing on the thumb and finger openings. I was thinking of writing up a pattern for them, but they actually need some work because the panel isn’t quite centered and I had forgotten what I did in the length of time between mitt #1 and mitt #2, and frankly I’m pretty sick of them so I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Aside from being so tired of them, I do like how they turned out – that Malabrigo sock sure is great, as though we all needed any reminding about that one.

Next up: I have Wollmeise in my hot little hands for the very first time!

So I Went to Lambtown

I went up to Dixon this morning to go to Lambtown (quick, you can too – it’s open for three more hours!) to wander around and look at yarn and sheeps.

Lambtown is a small fiber festival and there was definitely more fleece around – not something that interests me as I’m not a spinner. They had a couple of booths that had spindles that looked fun but dudes: I do not need another hobby when I still haven’t utilized weaving, you know?? I might try it sometime but I don’t want to buy a bunch of supplies.

Anyway, it was good, and I even ran into a twitter friend there (Hi Manda!) and stopped and chatted with her and her knitting group for awhile (go me, being social-ish!).

That last one is my favorite; he seemed young and his fur (?) was shaved funny. I like how they look kind of like poodles.

I actually didn’t take any pictures of sheep this year because there weren’t as many! Last year I took a bunch but there definitely weren’t as many animals there this year, which I think may have something to do with our ever worsening economy. Also it rained last night a little. (No excuses!) I kind of wish I did because the sheep were all sheared and wearing canvas ponchos to protect them. They kind of cracked me up. But the sheep weren’t doing anything interesting and I couldn’t really get any good shots.

Okay I have to go to my uncle’s party now. I actually have a finished project to show you all next time.

Conversations with the Patriarch

My family has a standing dinner each Wednesday at my grandfather’s house. We have been doing this for probably 25 years. Over the years the nights have changed, but it’s been a constant. Jason night. It’s the place to be.

With the amount of smarts on that side of the family, you would think we would have amazing conversations… You would be wrong.

Jason: You weren’t unemployed very long.
Me: No, I was only a hobo for two months.
Jason: A hobo? Is that what you were? Better than a ho.
Me: …
Jason: *smirk*
Me: OR IS IT? Because —
My Mother: — Ho’s get paid!
Me: That’s what I was going to say!

In conclusion, Jason is 83 and we all discussed ho’s.  And a good time was had by all! hahaha
