These Teeth of Mine

squid-teeth

So I went to my dentist for the final appointment in my epic teeth adventure that has lasted oh these last five months. He drilled, filled, and re-x-rayed. Sadly, Rhonda, my hygienist was out with a headache and I got to experience the joy of the intern. Yay.

I asked him about one of the fillings he did in March that had a small stain or something in it. I thought it was a piece of something that had stuck in the ceramic (I chose porcelain fillings over silver – they are reported to last longer, plus – bonus! – your teeth still look like teeth since the porcelain is white), but he determined that it was a stain of some sort. As a result, he is going to redo that filling on his dime next month when I go in for my six month check-up. Just what I was looking forward to: more drilling!

Also, we looked at the x-rays and there may be something up with one of my old fillings from years ago, so we must monitor that one. I told him I’ve about had it in terms of fillings, so that one won’t happen for at least another six months.

God, 2009 shall be known as the year that Teeth Ate My Bank Account. I’m at about $1900 spent since December. Yesterday, my woe was apparently made known because he knocked off the price of the X-rays. I was expecting another $550 bill.

Just FYI: if you don’t have insurance, dental appointments can cost more than remodelling your two bathrooms (and I should know :P).

On the other hand, I am on a first name basis with everyone in the dentist’s office!

This weekend is a three-day weekend, and I am going to rock it by sleeping a lot. I put in my vacation for July, and it was approved, so that’s nice. I’m going to go see Sarah in LA and probably paint my hall, den, and vanity area.

It is a thrilling life I lead.

Kissing This Month Goodbye, also whining

So this month has been kind of stressful and I am SO BEAT right now that it’s all I can do to not lay down and take a nap right here in my cube.

I have the biggest cube, so it wouldn’t be that much of a stretch.

This week in particular has been quite, uh, less than awesome.  I was out of town last weekend visiting my sister on Friday and then she came to stay with me on Saturday, and we got some bad cancer news about a family member and that has kind of preyed on me all week.  I’ve been really tired all week and had two after-work-hours board meetings, one of which was four hours long in a cold clubhouse.  I’m kind of surprised that I’m not sick, to be honest.

KNOCK ON WOOD

Anyhoo, I did a little economy-stimulating in the last couple weeks.  For two months I’ve been searching high and low the greater East Bay for a Nintendo Wii, and lo, I snagged the last one at Target a couple weeks ago. Then, a couple days later I was buying a vacuum and lo, there on the shelf in Walmart was one of many Wii Fits.  So I bought that too.

And I’ve lost 3 pounds using the Wii Fit. I know, right?

I just found Mario Galaxy the other day (the last one at Fry’s – a trend maybe??) and have been playing that.  I heart that game a lot, even though I’ve played the first few levels twice already on friends’ Wiis, so this is all a repeat for me right now.  I STILL need to hook up internet at my place (am piggybacking the local wireless) and get the Wii online so I can share all my ridiculous Miis and download old school games.

Take a look at my yarn wall:

Sock Yarn / Expedit

That is my sock yarn.

I am not done unpacking and may never be.  I am stuck in a quagmire of boxes, though they are certainly neatened up.  Also: where are the grotesques that I made in ceramics?? WHERE DID I PACK THEM OH THOSE MANY YEARS AGO?

I know not.

New Home

So, I’ve moved the website to a new host. It turns out this is painful on many levels – the wallet, the brain, the former registrar, etc. So, ew. Still not quite done, and not quite ready for all this to go public, but I think it will by the end of the month.

I decided to let the posts on the old host die, simply because upon reading through them the other day, there were really only a couple I would want to save – and I like the feeling of starting over with a clean slate! And there’s always the jackassery of the Livejournal, if you are so inclined. My LJ goes back to 2003, I think.

So, anyway, here we are at a new domain, with a version of WordPress that I haven’t broken, and a new webhost that seems to actually function! It is good times abounding, people, good times.

And: an almost completed pair of socks, can you dig it?

Regia Socks Progress

I’m going to kick back with my latest disc from Netflix (Big Love, Season 2, Disc 3) and work on these this weekend. Can’t wait to finish them up! It’s been over a year since I seriously knit on self-striping yarn, and I’d forgotton how darned fast it knits up. I’m very pleased with these; they’re almost an exact match.
