Beads and Yarn… it’s always beads and yarn.

DUDES!

At Joann’s they are having a mighty mighty clearance! On some of the stranded beads that hang on the wall! I mentioned this previously, but now I must show you the bounty that I purchased for a mere MERE $7.56:

Sale Beads

Um, hello $50 worth of beads? Hellooooo. I do like a good clearance. You can find this rack up by the magazines in the front. From left to right is pink resin, red resin, turquoise resin, black painted wood, green resin, wood, and glass.

What will I make with this? I do not know! But I have been wanting a lot of the black wood for months. I didn’t know they were going to clearance it. I used all my other ones for a Christmas present (sob).

Also at the Beverly’s they have the new Lion Brand sock yarn, Sock Ease:

I know, I know, I don’t need more sock yarn. But so what. I liked all the other colors too and I refrained from buying them, so that shows some small semblance of restraint, yes? Yes?

They do not have the Sock Ease at Joann’s or Michael’s. I know this because I looked. I do these things for you.

Okay, I don’t, I do them for me.

And finally, fun with Photoshop!:

In Vitro

I amuse myself in many ways.

Tomorrow: Thai Food! The Big Ross in San Francisco! And! DSW!

The fun never stops around here. Oh by the way, I am two weeks off carbs and I officially do not miss them.

Say it with me now:

WTF.

I KNOW, right? I personally never thought I would see the day. But I have been feeling a lot better and I don’t even WANT bread or tortillas or noodles or whatever… I just want half a spaghetti squash and chicken.

Let me say it again: WTF.

While bizarre, this is a good thing! I’ve been looking forward to having carbs again, only to realize that I don’t really want them. Was my two weeks of cleansing successful? Could very well be! Now I am afraid of rice, nice.

Remind me not to post when I am all tired because it is like drunk posting apparently. No cabazáns here! (they have carbs.)

All This All At Once

So, last week, I had nothing, but this week, I have got something.

First of all, I put in for vacation, and it was approved, so the first week of June I am hying off to TEXAS for some much needed R&R with my college girlfriends Julie, Tara, and Cindy! I’ll be gone for an entire week, and I’ll be staying with Julie, and oh I am just looking forward to it like you would not believe. There is a new yarn store in San Antonio that I am looking forward to checking out, along with all my favorite bead stores like Nomadic Notions, and Hill Country Weavers in Austin, and the outlets in San Marcos, etc.! It has been almost two years since I have set foot in Texas, and I am really looking forward to it! Mostly, though, I am looking forward to spending time with my friends.

On Thursday I went to the doctor and had some blood tests done. I was checked for diabetes and thyroid conditions, and am thankfully in the clear for both of those. Unfortunately, my blood pressure was kind of high, and I’ve gained some weight over the winter, so the nurse practioner put me on the South Beach diet. Today was my first day doing it, and the first two weeks are actually Atkins, so I have been pretty much carb free all day, and I would really like to eat a sandwich and possibly every noodle in the land. The most disappointing thing about this is that I can’t have fruit for two weeks and my dad and I went to the Nut Creek Farmer’s Market yesterday and they had some Brooks Cherries, which are soooo delicious. Instead I contented myself with artichokes, patty pans, and some delicious organic greens.

So, I am being forced to be healthy basically, which is not a bad thing, and well overdue.

On Saturday I went over to the Yarn Boutique in Lafayette and got my mom a gift certificate for Mother’s Day. Last weekend when I was visiting my sister we cooked up a mother’s day present, and we thought, what can be better than the gift of yarn? (WELL THE GIFT OF CARBS, ACTUALLY.) So Abby sent me some money and I got the gift certificate. While I was there, I perused the Dream in Color and may have made a few side purchases for myself.

New Yarn

Well, I bought the Vesper Sock on the left a couple weeks ago online, but I never showed it. Next to that is some Dream in Color Smooshy in “Some Summer Sky” and “Cold Fire”, and the green at the end is some Dream in Color Classy in “Spring Tickle”, which matches the very first Dream in Color Smooshy I bought at Stitches. Since Classy is a worsted weight yarn, I thought it would be fun to have a matching hat for socks that do not exist yet.

I have been knitting a little bit and have some pretty good progress to show on the Waving Lace Socks:

Sock Progress

I actually have less than one repeat to go before the toe. If I were so inclined I could finish this sock this week, but I’ve been bitten by the beading bug, so I’m gonna roll with that while the going is good. I did start the second Spey Valley, though – and hope I can finish that before I go to Texas (I am a dreamer. A carbless dreamer).

Anyway, that is it from me. I have to go take a shower and put some self tanner on my pale nerd legs because I bought some shorts for Texas and my legs give off kind of a radio active glow.

Avoiding the Good Fight

I’ve been avoiding upgrading WordPress because the last time I did it I have a mostly-blocked recollection of completely horking up the code and breaking the template and crying tearfully into a Dos Equis.

So, I’m waiting for my webhost to get the “One-Click Upgrade!” online before I do anything. Argh. 2.5 looks so shiny.

So I went to L.A. last weekend and had a nice time. I visited Sarah and Bill and Baby Will, and to my astonishment, had a couple of delightful conversations with Bill which doesn’t happen too often; it’s nice to talk to someone who has almost identical political views as you. As a Republican in a fluorescent blue state, that doesn’t happen very often.

The baby:

While we were encumbered with the wee tot, there was not a lot of jaunting around, but I did manage a fly-by trip to the LYS by Sarah’s house, Simply Knitting in Santa Clarita. It’s a nice little shop, and they were having a 50% off all the yarn in the store (except the Koigu) sale. I got some ridiculously expensive Prism Saki sock yarn and some Mirasol Hacho yarn:

Mirasol Hacho Sock yarn

The Prism retails for $35 (!) which is one hell of a lot for a skein of sock yarn, so it better make the Awesomest and Most Hardy Socks ever in the land of socks. But having purchased it for 50% off, it doesn’t have to.

The Hacho, above, is just DANGED GORGEOUS, rather reminds me of the Koigu base, but softer. Not superwash but I’m thinking mitts for this stuff anyway. I accidentally bought two different dye lots of the pink, but, eh.

And now I must go, for the trifecta of perfect (ALL NEW) television is soon upon us: The Office, Lost, and Supernatural. Oh, Thursdays!

Now, if only Dexter Season 2 would come out on DVD.
