I knit a hat! It’s been awhile since I knit one, and I’m still trying to finish my sweater that is so.close. to being done (have to finish one sleeve! ugh) so this was a nice break from that slog.
Meet Dirk. This is the Shilling hat pattern I found on Ravelry. I was looking for a textured man hat with cables. This has garter stitches and cables, right up my alley. Paired with an old skein of Dream in Color Classy (I believe the colorway is November Muse. Not sure if they make it anymore, but it’s gorgeous!) it makes a great man hat.
I knit this for my dad’s 70th birthday. It blocked out really nicely. So named “Dirk” because I knit the bulk of it while watching 2 episodes of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.
On Saturday, the sestra and I went to the Museum of Ice Cream in San Francisco! I had heard about this hyped event several months ago when it was in LA. I had thought it would be a fun thing to go do on one of my trips there, but as it turned out, it was completely sold out! Also expensive. But already sold out! You have to buy tickets online and you can’t just go there and expect to buy tickets at the door on some random day.
So, I subscribed to their mailing list to see when/where their next pop-up would appear and lo – the next one was San Francisco, a convenient 30-min Bart ride from the East Bay.
I could not get tickets. They sold out in like a half hour and by the time I got to the website (two hours after they went on sale) the tickets were gone. So, I got on the waiting list AGAIN.
Third time’s the charm, y’all, because a month after that, when they extended the SF installation, I finally got tickets for December 2.
Basically, this is an art installation, not really a museum. Also… it’s kind of a place to just take a bunch of pictures for Instagram, not even gonna lie. Anyway, despite this truly hipster social event, we enjoyed ourselves.
They gave us four treats while in there: A strawberry It’s-It, cherry flavored cotton candy, “unicorn” soft serve (the cone was dipped in a candy coating or something), and peppermint Pop Rocks. You get these treats as you wind your way through the various rooms, which were all very pink and candy coated.
And there you have it! Our visit to the Museum of Ice Cream. Was it fun? Yes. Was it worth $40? Ehh. Final grade: B
Umm, OBVIOUSLY. Stranger Things (Netflix)
2nd season was a blast. I have thoroughly enjoyed Steve’s evolution from Nancy’s douchey boyfriend to babysitter hero. So much to love about the kids – can’t believe the kid who plays Will – who was so absent in the first season – is such a good actor. They’re all great but he was a surprise. The whole cast is superb.
Search Party (TBS)
I absoutely adored the first season and its truly hilarious cast of well-meaning-yet-criminally-self-absorbed/deluded Millennials. Can the second season live up to the binge-worthy-ness of the first? I hope so. First two eps were great.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency Season 2 (BBC America)
I will shamelessly admit to watching basically everything Elijah Wood has ever been in (including every. single. episode. of Willfred) so he is the reason I started watching this show. I’m not a Douglas Adams fan, whose book series this is based on, so it certainly wasn’t that. But this show straddles the line of absurdist humor, heart, and intelligence, and is thoroughly enjoyable. The first season I started watching for Elijah Wood but stayed once I realized there were ghost cats/sharks (?). Anyway, it’s fun. This season is about an alternate dimension.
PODCASTS:
Nerdist – Episode 912, The Duffer Brothers: Well obviously this one caught my eye as I’m currently going through a Stranger Things phase. Fun interview with the creators.
My Favorite Murder: OK it’s growing on me. I figured out how to fast forward through the ads on my podcast app, so that helps. 😛 I often find their rambling annoying, though. My sister says the newer episodes are better; I started from the beginning while she started from the newest and is working her way back.
